Terraced Gardens

These gardens specially feature

  • rare asarabacca plants (Asarum europeum) used in the making of snuff
  • simple wooden sculptures, including a rhododendron tunnel,
  • views to Bassenthwaite Lake
  • daffodils galore in the spring and
  • a central rose feature to mark the bicentennial of the births of Alfred, Lord Tennyson and Edward FitzGerald

The child-friendly lawns and grass banks are much appreciated by youngsters while grown ups can relax on the colonnade, which provides welcome shelter and is particularly lovely when the roses are in bloom.
